Kate Clow
KATE'S BIOGRAPHY

Name: Kate Clow (Kardelen Karli)
Born: Hitchin, Herts, England, 1947.

I've always been crazy about old roads. I like to look at a landscape and imagine past travellers; who they were, where they were going, what they were trading. Turkey has so many thousands of years of history, practically every mountain has a well-used pass, practically every river a ford or a bridge. And in the forests or along the valley sides, there are still traces of the roads that linked them.

Education: English High Schools (to 1965). Technical computer training, then Open University Accounting and Marketing Diplomas (to 1988). Istanbul University International Management Diploma (to 1992).

Employment: Computer programmer, British Aerospace (to 1967);
Production and computer management, Unwins Printing Group (to 1974);
Computer manager for Bank of Boston subsidiary, London (to 1985);
Sales account executive (technical); worked on major government and private accounts, Wang Computers, London (to 1989);
Sales account executive (technical), World Bank contracts, Transcom (a Wang subsidiary), Istanbul and Ankara (to 1993).

Trek with Kate
Everyone who knows me, knows my two hounds (right) - Soul Sister and Blues Brother (he's the brown one). They know most of both trails and have many time found paths that I wouldn't have seen. They also love snow, and chasing goats. They often join me on trek.

If you want to join a guided group, or to make your own group, or just to have a guide for a few days, contact me from this site.

I also recommend one of the following:
Middle Earth Travel: (384) 271 2559, E-mail Middle Earth.
Ozkan Yasar: (532) 481 0967 (English and German, based in Kas)
Meidan Vishinsky: (537) 845 7133 (English and Hebrew, based in Israel and Kas). Meidan has a blog in Hebrew. For those who are interested in reading it, click here. He guides treks in Kackar and Taurus mountains. Contact: meidanv@gmail.com

Canan Parlak: (532) 311 1011 (based in Fethiye)

All know the Lycian Way well. Ozkan and Meidan know many sections of the St Paul Trail.

Get a Certificate
The Turkish Tourism Ministry is planning to give a certificate to all walkers on the Lycian Way or the St Paul Trail.

You will be able to download a form and then take it to the village headmen (muhtar) of the villages on the route. He will sign and date the form to show you walked through his village.

When you have finished your walk, you have to take the form to the Museum at Antalya, Fethiye or Yalvac, and they will give you a certificate signed by the Turkish Tourism Minister as a souvenir of your walk.

If you walk with a group, your guide can complete the form and get the certificate on your behalf.

We're working on this scheme now; we don't yet know when it will be implemented, but if you want a certificate send us an e-mail.
